4. Our Lawful Bases
Under UK data protection law, we must have a lawful basis for processing personal information.
Depending on the circumstances, we may rely upon:
Contract
Processing is necessary to provide Carmunity and the services you request under our Terms of Use.
For example, we need to process account information to create your account and location information when you ask Carmunity to navigate a route.
Consent
We may rely upon your consent for certain activities, including certain device permissions, optional marketing communications or technologies where consent is legally required.
You may withdraw consent at any time.
Legitimate Interests
We may process information where necessary for our legitimate business interests, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
These interests may include:
- maintaining and improving Carmunity;
- preventing fraud;
- maintaining platform security;
- understanding service performance;
- protecting our users; and
- operating and developing our business.
Legal Obligation
We may process information where required to comply with a legal obligation.
5. Location Data
Location information is central to certain Carmunity features.
We may process location information to provide:
- route planning;
- turn-by-turn navigation;
- live convoy tracking;
- nearby POIs;
- nearby events or activities;
- location-based community features; and
- other location-dependent services you choose to use.
Your location will not automatically be visible to every Carmunity user simply because you have enabled location permissions.
Where a feature involves sharing your location with other users, we will aim to make this clear within the relevant feature.
You can stop location access through your device settings, although this may prevent location-based features from working correctly.
6. Driver Pro – Navigation Fair Usage Policy
The Driver Pro subscription includes access to "Unlimited Navigation", subject to this Fair Usage Policy.
To protect Carmunity from excessive service costs, misuse and commercial usage, Driver Pro Navigation is limited to a maximum of 30 Navigation Drives during each monthly subscription period.
A "Navigation Drive" is counted whenever a user starts a new turn-by-turn navigation session. Pausing, resuming or being automatically rerouted during the same journey will not count as an additional Navigation Drive. Ending a journey and starting another navigation session will count as a new Navigation Drive.
After 30 Navigation Drives have been used, turn-by-turn navigation will become unavailable until the user's allowance automatically resets. For monthly subscriptions, this resets at the beginning of the next subscription period. For annual subscriptions, it resets monthly based on the subscription start date. Unused Navigation Drives do not roll over.
Driver Pro Navigation is intended exclusively for personal, non-commercial use. It must not be used for taxi or private-hire work, deliveries, courier services, business fleets, logistics, driving instruction, account sharing, automated usage or any similar commercial purpose.
Carmunity may suspend or terminate navigation access where an account is used commercially, fraudulently or otherwise in breach of these Terms.
7. Live Convoy Tracking
When you voluntarily activate a live convoy or location-sharing feature, your location may be shared with other authorised participants in that drive or group.
Location sharing is intended to operate only according to the functionality and permissions associated with the relevant feature.
You should only participate in location-sharing groups with people you are comfortable sharing your location with.
8. Public Information
Some information you publish on Carmunity may be visible to other users.
This can include:
- profile information;
- profile photograph;
- vehicle photographs;
- Garage information;
- Drivagram content;
- public routes;
- public POIs;
- event content;
- club information; and
- comments or other public interactions.
Please consider carefully what information you make public.
9. Who We Share Information With
We may share personal information with service providers that help us operate Carmunity.
These may include providers of:
- cloud hosting;

- geolocation services;
- analytics;
- crash reporting;
- push notifications;
- authentication;
- customer support;

- where required by law;
- in response to a valid request from law enforcement or another competent authority;
- to investigate fraud or illegal activity;
- where necessary to protect someone's safety or legal rights; or
- in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring or sale of all or part of our business.
We do not sell your personal information in the ordinary meaning of selling personal information for money.
10. Marketplace and Affiliate Links
Carmunity may contain links to external retailers, automotive businesses and other third parties.
When you follow an external link, the third party may process information under its own privacy policy.
Some links may contain affiliate identifiers which allow Carmunity to receive commission when a purchase is made.
We recommend reviewing the privacy information of any external service you use.
11. Analytics and Similar Technologies
We may use analytics and similar technologies to understand how Carmunity is used, identify technical issues and improve the service.
Where applicable law requires consent before accessing or storing information on your device for these purposes, we will request the appropriate permission.
Information about the specific analytics technologies used by Carmunity may be provided through our consent settings or other privacy information.
12. Marketing Communications
Where permitted by law, we may send information about Carmunity features, offers or services.
Where consent is required, we will obtain it.
You can unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe option contained in the communication or through your available account settings.
Service messages relating to your account, security or subscriptions are not marketing communications and may still be sent where necessary.
13. Push Notifications
Carmunity may send push notifications relating to:
- clubs;
- messages;
- events;
- drives;
- community activity;
- safety or vehicle alerts;

You can control push notifications through your device settings and, where available, within Carmunity.
14. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including legal, accounting, security and dispute-resolution requirements.
Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and why it is processed.
When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise personal information associated with your account unless:
- we are legally required to retain it;
- it is required to resolve a dispute;
- it is necessary to prevent fraud or abuse;
- it forms part of records we are legally required to retain; or
- another lawful reason for retention applies.
Content shared with other users may remain in certain circumstances, for example where another user has incorporated it into a conversation, subject to applicable law.
15. International Data Transfers
Some of our technology and service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal information is transferred internationally, we will use appropriate safeguards where required by applicable data protection law.
These may include recognised adequacy arrangements or approved contractual safeguards.
16. Data Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure.
However, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
17. Your Data Protection Rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights including the right to:
- access your personal information;
- correct inaccurate information;
- request deletion of your information;
- restrict certain processing;
- object to certain processing;
- receive certain information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent where processing is based upon consent; and
- complain to the relevant data protection regulator.
These rights are subject to applicable legal conditions and exemptions.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
18. Account and Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your Carmunity account and associated personal information using the account deletion functionality provided within Carmunity or by contacting us at:
Deleting your Carmunity account does not necessarily cancel an active Apple App Store or Google Play subscription. Subscriptions should also be cancelled through the relevant app-store account.
19. Children
Carmunity is not intended for children under 16.
We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 16.
If we become aware that personal information has been collected from a child contrary to our requirements, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
